Client profile :
Male. Graduated from University of Michigan. 3.7 GPA. Primary interests were computer science and economics. Interned for fintech startups. Offered writing help to friends and their friends.
Changes made through consulting :
Examining his experience of interning for fintech startups, we discovered that he had such a great enthusiasm for games. More often, he created games to play with people both offline and online. We suggested that he use his gaming experience to innovate operations for the startups, and he did. Small innovations he contributed enabled the startups to save much time and cost. However, he didn’t seem too excited.
We guided him in exploring what makes him most intellectually excited. The steps we took revealed that he had a real, serious interest in solving big problems. Identifying and reshaping the scope of his interest, we came up with a list of potential employers. We helped him write to and prepare interviewing with the recruiters about what specific things he can contribute and how. Some of them responded and spoke in depth with him about new opportunities they offered.
Half a year later, he was spending a great deal of time with a group of recruiters and engineers responsible for some of the new opportunities he was introduced to. After the summer following graduation, he called us and spent an hour on the phone, vividly describing what an awesome experience he was building through his employer’s training program and meeting with people of much diverse backgrounds.
Outcome :
Joined Raytheon.
